So long as you are capable of advance, so long you have not abdicated the hope and future of a divine soul.
So long as you are capable of advance, so long you have not abdicated the hope and future of a divine soul.
There is a tremendous amount at stake here. Emerson does not invite us out for a casual stroll. He asks us to discover for ourselves our deepest selves, and in discovering ourselves to discover the world. To think that this is a private matter is to make a fundamental mistake about who we are. We may think “Well, if I do not take up this task or if I fail, it really concerns only myself.” These thoughts come from those parts of ourselves that want to remain isolated, alone, and in pain. What one does, we all do. When one is in pain, we all suffer. Eventually, everyone will know this from their own experience. For now, we look forward to the future, and the promise of a divine soul.
