Genius is a delicate sensibility to the laws of the world, adding the power to express them again in some new form.
Finding one's path in the world requires genius, is genius expressed. The new form in which the laws of the world are expressed need not be as some external object or theory but may be in the form of your own life. In finding your path you find yourself; you create yourself. The artist does this in creating an object, a part of him or herself. In this sense, we are all artists. Our canvas is our flesh and bone. To find happiness, our creation must fit the laws of the world, and for this we need the delicate sensibility of which Emerson speaks. If we are not sensitive to it, we will try to travel against the current. This can only lead to misery.
