That which enters the world through our actions may be for good, or ill. Those acts that are constructive, anabolic, come out of who we are in the deepest sense. Those that are destructive, catabolic, come through us in acts of possession. Think of the adoration which Hitler received when he entered Austria during the Anschluss[1], or the atrocities of Kristallnacht[2]. Were not these people possessed, as we can all be possessed by an idea we have not mastered? The worst can happen only when we are possessed. Then we think that the world must be, SO (!). There can be no doubt, for if we doubt even one thing, we doubt all. So think those who are possessed. How different is this from our inner world when we possess our thoughts. Then we do not fear to turn them to every corner so that we may better understand that which we have mastered. We, not they, control the interaction.
[1] Anschluss (the accession), or Anschluss Ă–sterreichs (accession of Austria), was the Nazi annexation of Austria into Greater Germany. The entry of German troops into Austria on March 12, 1938 was greeted with jubilation by the majority of the Austrian populace.
[2] Kristallnacht (Crystal Night, but generally referred to as the Night of Broken Glass in English) was a coordinated attack in the form of a staged riot directed against the Jewish inhabitants of Germany by the Nazi Party on November 9 and 10, 1938. 95 Jews were killed and ca. 27,000 were arrested and sent to concentration camps. More than 200 Synagogues were destroyed in that single night.
